Scaling up the mini mountains of Terraform in Galway, Ireland

Creating relief maps as a tool for education, nature planning and the tourism market.

Based in Galway, Ireland, Billy Hamilton is Founder of Terraform.

By producing a 3D print of a given geographical range, Billy creates a negative mould. He then casts this in resin to produce a positive mould, which can then be formed over time and again.

He uses printed PVC to form over the tool, highlighting the areas of relief and features including rivers and mountain ranges. Using reducing windows allows him to produce a range of map sizes, minimising waste in both energy and materials.

As a small, independent business, Billy is glad to be able to access industry standard equipment, with Formech’s 686 fitting neatly into his office. View the product here.
